John 17- The Prayer of Jesus
What does this passage say about group functions?
Firstly, i chose this passage because it is Jesus praying for his father's glory, and for his people, so that they may fully bring glory to God. That is the most important factor and the reason for our team goals.
Jesus asked for unity among his people, the same kind of unity that he shares with God. Jesus is stress fully repeating the perfect unity he wishes to see among all believers, so i think that groups should function with unity. If this means compromise, grace and patience with each other then so be it... with unity all of our gifts can come together to fullfill God's plan for this group.
What elements of team work are present?
I think that team work is the same as unity. Everyone is cooperative and puts forward effort, and i think that if our motives and efforts are based on a Godly perspective on teams in missions, then our plans will end in spiritual succession.
What will be a significant challenge for our team?
This passage really spoke to me about the compassion of Jesus. This week at mish conph, Marty spoke about Jesus weeping for all the hurting and broken in the world, and as i read this passage i could see and feel the emotion that was coming out of him, he loves his children and so we are called to as well.
I think the biggest challenge for our team will not be unity or teamwork, but an overflow of emotion and brokenness when we actually arrive in Cameroon and not knowing what to do with it. Will we turn to each other for support? There is so much pain in the world and so little we can do on a seven week mission trip, but i believe that with this trip will come a greater compassion for God's lost people and we will start to know what it is like to have our hearts break for what breaks God's.
